Fine art FAQ - The answers to all your questions
What makes a print “fine art” (and why most prints aren’t)
A fine art print is defined not by size or price, but by materials, process, and permanence. Most commercial prints are designed for short-term display — fast output, mass production, and cost efficiency. At Wallux, fine art printing is approached as a craft, not a commodity.
We work exclusively with museum-grade, acid-free substrates and archival pigment inks designed to retain tonal depth, shadow detail, and colour integrity over decades. The goal is not just visual impact on day one, but a print that ages gracefully, without yellowing, fading, or loss of detail. Every decision — from paper texture to ink density — is made with longevity in mind.
This is why our prints are created to be framed, displayed, and lived with, not replaced.
What is your printing process — from file to finished artwork
Every print at Wallux begins with a careful evaluation of the source image. Resolution, colour space, contrast range, and intended print size are assessed before printing begins. We do not follow a one-click workflow.
Colour management is handled using calibrated workflows, ensuring what you see on screen translates accurately to paper or canvas. Shadows are preserved, highlights are controlled, and skin tones or subtle gradients are handled with restraint.
Each print is produced using archival giclée printing, where pigment inks are applied in micro layers for exceptional tonal smoothness and detail. Prints are inspected manually before approval. Only once the output meets our visual and material standards does it move forward for finishing or framing.
What are the right paper or canvas for your work
The surface you choose fundamentally changes how an image is experienced.
-
Fine Art Papers (such as cotton rag or textured papers) are ideal for photographs where tonal subtlety, depth, and detail matter — landscapes, portraits, architectural work, and monochrome images.
-
Canvas offers a softer, painterly presence and works well for bold compositions, modern interiors, and large statement pieces.
Square, rectangular, and panoramic formats are not trends — they are compositional choices. We guide clients in selecting the format that best supports the image, the space it will live in, and the viewing distance. The aim is balance, not decoration.
What is Longevity, care, and archival standards
All Wallux fine art prints are produced using archival pigment inks on acid-free substrates. Under normal indoor display conditions, these materials are rated to last 100–200 years without noticeable degradation.
This makes them suitable not only for homes, but also for:
-
Corporate spaces
-
Galleries
-
Hospitality interiors
-
Long-term collections
Proper framing and controlled lighting further extend print life. We advise on display and care so that your artwork remains stable and visually consistent over time.
